Catch My Breath Koga x Reader

You flutter open your [eye color] eyes and you are greeted with warm sunlight shining into them. You blink a few times before shielding your eyes and sitting up from the ground. You look around and see you are sitting in the middle of a lush green field with the wind gently blowing through the grass.

You yawn and stretch your arms over your head, reaching into the pocket of your [favorite color] school skirt. You pull out a folded piece of paper and read the neat handwriting. ‘Hey [name]! Come to Feudal Japan as soon as you can! I’ve been really missing you lately. It gets tiring being stuck with Inuyasha all the time. We are in a little village for the time being so see if you can find us! Hope to see you soon. Love, Kagome.’ You smile and lay back down on the ground, clutching the note to your chest.

“I’ll go and find them later; right now I just want to sleep some more.” You sigh contently and close your eyes again for another quick nap.

You are startled awake when you feel someone breathe hot air on your neck. You widen your eyes and sit up rapidly, making the person near you yelp in pain.

You see a young man kneeling beside you with black hair tied into a high ponytail and a brown wolf fur headband around his head. He’s wearing a brown wolf pelt with silver and black armor. He completes his outfit with brown wolf fur used as shoulder plates. The most interesting feature of the young man is that he has small pointed ears and a bushy brown tail swishing behind him. You back away from him and try to control your breathing, your face red with embarrassment.

“Ow warn a guy next time okay? That really hurt!” The man rubs his nose and glares at you with his light blue eyes. You stand up and place your hands on your hips, scrunching your nose up at him.

“You shouldn’t be a creeper and be so close to my neck! What the hell are you doing hovering over me like that?” The man flinches slightly at your harsh tone, startled at your response before he scoffs and stands up.

“You’re lucky I didn’t kill you while you were sleeping. Who told you it was a great idea to sleep right in the middle of nowhere?” He sniffs the air and wrinkles his face in disgust, waving a hand in front of his nose. “You reek of human you know that? You’re stinking up the whole place; it’s disgusting.” You gasp in surprise and march up to the man, being so close to touch noses with him if you stand on your toes. You poke him in the chest a few times and glare at him intently.

“You stink like a dog! And I know what a dog smells like; I’m around one all the time! Who gives you the right to tell me I stink just because I’m a human huh?! And I’m allowed to sleep where I want; I’m not some kid that needs to be looked after!” The man takes a step back in shock, trying to think of what to say.

“I can tell she’s a human but she acts like she owns the whole place! I would think she would be scared of me but she’s talking to me like I’m a kid! And she referred to a dog; does she mean that guy?” He thinks to himself as he stares into your fiery [eye color] eyes.

“So are you a part of Kagome’s group? With that mutt-face Inuyasha?” Now it was your turn to be surprised at the man’s response. You slowly nod and cross your arms in front of your chest.

“Yes what’s it to you? Are you a friend of them or something?” He scoffs and shakes his head, pointing at his chest with his thumb.

“Are you kidding me? I can hardly stand that guy! He’s nothing but a weakling! I wouldn’t be caught dead hanging out with that loser.” You chuckle to yourself and take a few steps towards him, making him look around nervously.

“Inuyasha is stronger than he looks you know. I think you’re jealous because you are the weakling. I’ve eaten scarier things than you; you hardly compare to Inuyasha or even me. I could kick your butt anytime and anywhere.” You smirk widely and poke him again in the chest, making the man growl softly.

“No pathetic human can talk to me like that! Especially one with strange clothes. They look like what Kagome wears but she has more curves than you to pull it off. Anyway, I’ve wasted way too much of my precious time talking to you. I’m out of here.” The man suddenly is enveloped in a gust of wind resembling a tornado. The tornado zooms away into the distance, leaving you standing in shock and surprise.

After a moment, you realize what the man said and open your mouth in anger. “Hey! I’m not a pathetic human and I don’t wear strange clothes! Get back here and apologize you freak!” You grit your teeth and start sprinting after the tornado, hoping to teach that man a lesson or two for insulting you.

“I think I lost her. Stupid human can’t hope to ever surpass a member of the wolf demon tribe.” The man smirks and makes himself comfortable in the branch of a tree, enjoying the sunlight on his face. After a long while he hears heavy breathing and footsteps coming in his direction with his keen ears. He stands up on the branch and looks into the horizon, almost falling out of the tree in shock when he sees you running towards him.

“How did she manage to find me?! Nobody can catch up with me when I use whirlwind! No way!” You feel your muscles hurt more and more as you continue to run, spying the wolf man up in a tall tree. You grin to yourself and stop in front of the tree, bracing yourself on your knees and gulping air into your lungs.

“You thought you could ditch me after making fun of me? I don’t think so! Nobody makes a fool of me and gets away with it. Now you better apologize you mutt!” The man scowls and jumps off of the branch, landing in front of you.

“I suppose I have to give you props for being able to catch up with me; I’m surprised you haven’t passed out from exhaustion yet. But I don’t apologize! It’s not in my nature.” You grit your teeth and pant some more before speaking.

“Then tell me your name at least so I can remember who to kick the crap out of if you become a coward and run away before I catch my breath.” The man gasps slightly but turns his head away and glances at you from the corner of his eye.

“The name’s Koga okay? Now leave me alone already; you’re not going to get an apology from me. So quit following me and go back to that mutt-face!” You smile and straighten up, wobbling on your feet from exhaustion.

“Koga eh? Meaning steel fang; interesting. Well Koga, I’m going to force out an apology from you whether you like it or not! You haven’t met anyone like me before. I have a name you’ll never forget. Remember-,” You wobble a bit more on your feet before crashing to the ground, fainting from fatigue. Koga jumps back in surprise and kneels down next to you, shaking your shoulders.

“Hey wake up already! You can’t faint on me! What the hell is your problem?!” When he sees you aren’t waking up, he groans and scratches the back of his head. “Damn it; if Kagome finds out I let one of her friends die she’ll never forgive me. Why did I have to be stuck with this hothead of a human?” He sighs and lifts you up bridal style off the ground, walking to the nearest stream.

You open your eyes when you feel something cold being placed on your forehead. Blinking sleep out of your eyes, you see that Koga’s face is inches away from yours, making you explode into a bright blush. Koga blushes faintly as well and quickly moves away, grumbling to himself. You gently sit up from the ground before falling back down; your arms too weak to support your weight.

“Hey easy now okay? You’ve been out for a few hours already but don’t blame me because that was your own fault.” You weakly chuckle and pull the wet washcloth off of your forehead, squeezing the excess water onto your cheeks.

“Thanks for taking care of me; I appreciate it.” Koga flinches and looks back at you in confusion. He had expected you to yell or make some rude comment towards him, not thank him at all.

“Um, uh, you’re welcome.” He mumbles as he looks away, pink dusting his tanned cheeks. “I never caught your name; you passed out before you said it.”

“I’m [first name] [last name]. Don’t you forget it!” Koga nervously chuckles and scratches the back of his head.

“Not a bad sounding name; kinda fits you. Anyway, do you need to catch up with Kagome’s group? I saw the note she wrote for you in your pocket.” You decide against asking Koga why he was snooping through your pockets and nod slowly.

“Yeah and I should get going right now. Thanks for looking after me.” You push yourself to your feet before you fall back down on the ground. You groan and push yourself back up, again falling back down.

“You can’t move stupid! Do you know how much you strained your body chasing after me? There’s no way you can find your way back to the mutt-face.” Koga sighs and picks you up, throwing you over his shoulder and walking.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?! Put me down this instant! I’m not a child; I can walk on my own! This is embarrassing put me down!” You squeal out as you hit Koga on the back, him chuckling softly.

“Quit your squirming and let me help you out. This’ll be for calling your clothes weird. I’m still not apologizing though so better get that through your head.” You stop hitting him and sigh, blowing air out of your mouth in frustration.

“You’re an asshole you know that?” Koga chuckles and nods in agreement, sniffing the air every once in a while to make sure he’s going on the right track.

“You’ll just have to get used to it because I’m not changing.” You giggle and playfully roll your eyes, making him blush at your cute tone of voice. You sigh and let your body relax, feeling content in his strong arms. You know the two of you did not start on the right foot but you somehow feel safe in his presence.

“This is an odd feeling I have; it’s so warm and comforting. I like it a lot,” you think to yourself as you begin to doze off again, humming quietly to yourself.

Koga is surprised at your humming but he can’t help but crack a small smile as he listens to the melody. “You’re so odd; not like any human I’ve met before. You’re just full of surprises; I can’t keep up with you,” he whispers as he walks in time with your melody.

“Time to wake up now; we’re here.” You open your eyes and see that Koga is whispering into your ear, making you shriek and blush brightly. Koga jumps and breathes hard, trying to slow his rapid heartbeat.

“Warn me will you?! You almost gave me a heart attack!” You chuckle sheepishly and scratch your cheek, your face still as red as a tomato.

“You shouldn’t be so close to my face then; that’s your own fault.” Koga shakes his head and stands up when Kagome enters the small house you are in.

“Finally you’re up [name]! We’ve been worried about you! I thought that some creepy demon captured you or something; I was so scared! But I’m happy Koga was with you to bring you back here safely.” Kagome drops to her knees and pulls you into a bone-crushing hug, making you gasp for air. After she lets go, she sighs and places a hand on her head.

“I wish we could’ve caught up to you earlier but it seems we have to go back home today. And I’m not sure the next time we can visit; hopefully soon but I don’t know.” You feel your heart break when you hear you have to go home right away; you barely enjoyed your time in the feudal era. You and Kagome often travel to the feudal era together and also return home at the same time as well.

“Really? So soon? Ah man that sucks. I was kinda wanting to, you know; talk to you more and all [name]. Even though you still reek like a human.” You smile sadly and look down to the ground. You want to stay longer because you always have fun in the feudal era and you also want to get to know Koga more.

You close your eyes and think for a moment before opening them and looking at Kagome. “Kagome, you’re my very best friend in the whole world. You have a family to go back to and people who love you. And remember I’m always here for you as well. But I’ve made up my mind; I’m not going back home. I’m never going back home. Unlike you I don’t have parents to go back to; I’ve been an orphan for so long I can’t remember their faces. I know you help ease the burden of my loneliness but I don’t want to go back to a world where I’m a nobody. Here, I’m actually someone, someone who can be strong for others and herself. So I’m going to stay here, forever.”

Kagome and Koga gasp in shock before Kagome starts to shake, tears flowing out of her eyes. “Are you sure [name]? I know you lost your parents though and I’m sure the loneliness hurts; I was just too wrapped up in my life to think about what you felt. I’m sorry for that. If you want to stay, I won’t force you to come back. Just-just please stay safe for me okay? Please don’t die until I come back!” She hugs you tightly and sobs into your shoulder, you patting her back gently.

“This is what I want Kagome. I have something to live for now; I’ll be much happier living here than back in our world. Don’t worry about me; I can take care of myself from now on. I’ll always be waiting by the well for your return okay? Besides, I’ll stick around with Koga for a little while; I won’t die I promise.” Kagome nods and sniffles, wiping a few tears away from her eyes.

She looks at Koga and clasps her hands in front of her face. “Please take care of [name] for me okay Koga? I trust you can keep her safe right?” Koga looks at you and blushes, looking down on the ground and scratching his head.

“This is all so sudden and I mean, she and I just met but I suppose- what I mean to say is, uh sure. I’ll take care of her no worries.” Koga smiles as Kagome jumps for joy, her arms high in the air.

“Thank you Koga! You’re a really good friend; take care of [name] and make sure no demons go after her or anything.” She smiles and gives you another tight hug before pulling away. “I think I’m better with the idea of you staying here if Koga is with you. I’ll come back as soon as I can okay? It might take me a little while but I’ll be back. Just wait for me alright? I have to go now; goodbye [name]! I’ll see you again soon!” Kagome waves goodbye and skips out of the house, heading towards the well.

You wave back to her and beam; feeling happy and strong with your decision. You glance back to Koga and walk up to him, giving him a hug. His face turns bright red as he stares down at you, unsure of how to act because he was not expecting a hug from you.

“Looks like we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other huh? I’m pretty excited.” You giggle and playfully poke his nose. “But if you want to learn more about me; first you’ll have to apologize and catch me!” You bolt out of the house and laugh as you run into the crisp air.

Koga is still standing in the house stunned by your hug before he snaps out of his daze and gasps. “Hey wait a minute! You’re crazy if you think you can outrun me! Come back here you! I’m not going to protect you from demons if you don’t stop right now! You’re crazy if you think I’ll apologize to you now!” You shake your head and continue running, a wide smile forming on your lips.

“So this is the feeling I feel around him huh? The feeling of happiness; I like it a lot. I could get used to feeling happy with Koga around.”
